What is an RA?
The Resident Adviser (RA) is a student staff position. The RA is responsible for the day-to-day administration of a floor or house in University housing. Resident Adviser responsibilities include developing a healthy community, mentoring students, policy enforcement, and skilled utilization of campus resources. In addition, the RA is expected to serve office hours, work in the center office, perform duties and rounds, complete programming requirements and fulfill assigned marketing duties, including reapplication.
How do I become an RA? It is as easy as 1, 2, 3!
1. Apply to take the RA Class
2. Complete the RA Class with a B average or higher
3. Apply for an interview
Minimum Requirements to Apply for the RA Position:
- Be currently enrolled in or have completed the Resident Adviser Training Course (EDAH 2963/4993). If you have completed the course, you must have earned a grade of at least a "B" or better.
- Achieved and must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.50.
- Be currently enrolled on the Norman campus as a full-time student.

Course Description:
This course introduces various theories and skills that will aid the student in the understanding of the performance of duties of a resident adviser. Areas of studies include student development theory, community development, programming, peer counseling and policy enforcement. The class will also review several current issues confronting college students.
Course Goals & Objectives:
At the end of the course you will:
- understand college student development
- explain and identify community development and the role programming plays in developing community
- approach different conflict and mediation experiences with confidence
- understand coping and helping skills and apply them to a floor/community
