Your Comments:

Dave, The iced tea at Cate is AWFUL!  I'm glad that the water no longer has dangerous arsenic levels - but the water now tastes horrible!  And when you use this awful water to make the tea - the tea tastes horrible as well! PLEASE switch to purified or bottled water, because tea is one of the only non-carbonated, no sugar drinks, and lots of us Cate consumers want to continue to enjoy good iced tea! Thanks!

It may be the water or it may be something else.  By that I mean we use the same tea at Cate and Crossroads.  I'm really confused though, I've received many comments saying the tea at Crossroads is terrible and the tea at Cate is good. Now you're saying that the tea at Cate is terrible.  Both areas use the same water so I'm thinking we have another problem besides the water.  I will ask the Cate folks to review their tea making process to make sure we aren't doing something to cause the problem.  Ditto for Crossroads.  We have this same tea at Chick-fil-A and in our Catering Department.

If we find it is the water we will add filters to the supply lines.

Bedrock: A debit/credit card would be really nice.  A lot of people use check cards exclusively now and don't always have cash.  Thanks

Come on how about getting this going and getting us a check card thing.   Budlite Guy

One is ordered.  I understand the phone lines are in, now it's just waiting for the bank to deliver the credit card readers.

Danny was very nice and always smiled.  He is very good w/ customer service!

Dave, please please please reconsider having B&B closed all day Saturday and evenings on Sunday. I know that Crossroads is always open if you want a sandwich but I have been sick all weekend and the Union is too far away to drag yourself when you have no energy. There's only so many times in one weekend you can eat pizza and pasta, and don't even get me started on how unhealthy Taco Mayo is or how much I dislike eating there... I have talked to people and read other comments asking you to close Taco Mayo if you have to close something, I know I'm not alone in this. Bring back our sandwiches!!!
-Karen

Dave, I know money is tight and that cutting costs is a top priority right now, however, I find it hard to justify having a meal plan to eat only Taco Mayo and Pizza on the weekends.  Since the Cafe is closed at Dinner on Friday and doesn't reopen until Sunday at 4:30, all that is left is Burger King and then only two places in Cate since you've decided not to have the hot bar, sandwich bar, cinnabon, and even Roscoe's open.  That is horrible, not only from a health stand point, but a money stand point as well.  After 5 years here, I've seen establishments get lessened hours and lessened employees because somehow money isn't there to keep them open.  But if this happens, the employees loose out as well as the customers (lack of hours for the employees and lack of choices for the customers).   I've also heard that only the pizza place and taco mayo will remain the only things open on game days as well.  Dave, that is too much to handle for the people that work those places.  How can you justify putting more hardship on them on game days when you've already put the extra crowds on their hands by closing the other establishments on the weekends?  Tonight, I had to battle a line passed the drink bar at Taco Mayo because only one person (the supervisor Sam) was there making the meals and trying to train random employees to help him.  Even though this is the beginning of school and employees are scarce, the situation will not change much if only two places are open.  What have I been paying for these 5 years?  How can I justify the costs if things keep closing?  Microwave food is starting to sound good.

You can get that on your meal plan too.  Enough with my smart a** remarks, let's talk operations and services.

There is nothing that we want more than to provide you good service.  One of our greatest challenges is to balance the service we provide with the budget we have to work with.  As you know all of our revenue comes from the meal plans we sell, we don't get money from anywhere else.  We have over 500 fewer students on meal plans this semester.  You do the math, 500 plans x $1503.00 per plan and we have $750,000 less each semester to help run our operations and provide you service.

Where do we make this up from?  Well we try to buy smarter, we try to train better so there is less waste, and we try to cut labor wherever we can.

Weekend business has always been pretty slow, that's why we closed Couch on the weekends a few years ago.  Now it's down even more.

I am not married to any concept.  We can just as easily keep Block and Barrel open if that is what our customers want (and from the volume of comments on the subject it seems to be)
Starting on the OU / Texas weekend we will have Breakfast buffet on the B&B hot Bar.  We will start serving sandwiches at 11 am.  Taco Mayo will open at 11 am also.  We will not run the Crimson Crust, Roscoe's, or Cinnabon that weekend because it will be VERY SLOW.

We will make adjustments to have more variety available after that.

My cashier was great and helped me.  I hate the high prices!

Ya'll rock my face off!

Oh Xcetera!  I want Banana Runts!

I want Good and Plenty's.  Do you think if we make enough noise they'll listen to us?

Couch needs one thing to complete its dessert entourage... pudding. Banana Pudding! The chocolate mousse (spelling?) is nice, but we need something more traditionally pudding-oriented. Give us banana pudding, Dave! Please!

Pudding is certainly within the production scope of the technology that we have at our disposal.  I'll see why we haven't pureed a few bananas for that pudding.

I need little packages of baby carrots.

I'll see what we can find.

Dude, Give Chris and Jarod a raise!  They are flippin amazing!.they work the graveyard shift.  Seriously do it!

Block and Barrel needs Chicken Cordon Blue.

That might be a very good special to run sometime.

Bigger cups for water.   OU Staff

Since you did away with the C-store, how's about selling cases of soda in Xcetera?

I can't afford to eat!.your prices are to high.

I'm not sure where you are talking about, it didn't say on your card (or I missed it, sorry).  I think our pricing is very much in line with other food service establishments.  All of our branded concepts use the same pricing as their "street store" cousins.  In many cases you pay a little less because we don't charge a sales tax on your meal plan.

Hey Dave, I was just wondering if you were going to announce the winners of the pizza naming contest. Let me know if you can Thanks Dan

Dan, a great reminder for me to do just that.  The winning restaurant name as you know by now was:

1. Crimson Crust (with 45.6% of the vote) turned in by Kieth (not Keith) Juandel Thomas III
2. Ciao Down with 29.1% - Holly McNatt
3. Papa Pia's with 11.9% - Peace Ossum

I need Campbells Chicken Noodle soup.  Get rid of soup at hand.  Please, Please, I beg you Dave.  The other Chicken Noodle is not the old Campbells chicken noodle.  Thanks Your favorite fan

No, Soup at Hand is already ready to eat and not condensed like the soup in the can.  While it is supposed to be the same thing, I never add all the water to my soup.  I think we have regular cans of condensed soup now, but I will check.

Yo Dave, Long time no write!  How ya doing?  I'm doing well with one exception.  We have a craving for the gallon of O.J. in Xcetera.  Sweet?  Peace!   Adam

Jared and Chris are so Hot! And the most friendly Xcetera workers ever!  They make my day!

I'll ask Shawn to turn down the air conditioning in Xcetera if they are so hot.  Seeing they're so friendly, I don't understand why they didn't say something themselves.

I like Pepsi products!

Boy did you come to the wrong school !..  No really, we have a contract with CocaCola USA that extends to June of 2008.  We are only allowed to serve and sell CocaCola products on campus.

Jared is the bomb!

A little Pepto Bismol should fix that right up.

Dave, Yesterday I was in Xcetera and the Sushi guy came in.  The lady at the register asked him to wait and let her check him in and he went off on her.  She asked him to calm down, and said she would get to him as soon as she got her customers waited on.  He was so rude and if I would have been that lady I would have knocked him to his knees.  I wanted to do it for her.  Fire him Dave.  Jon

Actually we did.  That is why we haven't had sushi this last two weeks.  We have a new sushi chef in now and things should be getting back to normal.

Candy is so expensive!  That makes me sad.

Actually it's the low blood sugar that is making you sad, have a little candy and your mood will improve greatly.

I haven't bought a candy bar at a 7-11 lately, are our prices higher than theirs?

I don't like the Really High prices at Xcetera.  Grocery Tycoons!  I also miss the C-store in Cate even though it was over priced too.  Price gouging and long walk=sad Andrea

I don't think I have a response.  There are a lot of reasons that have to do with sales margins, meal plan pricing, and missed meal factors that go into our pricing.  I'm not sure I've ever gotten students to understand this.  I am sorry you are sad but I don't think I can do anything about it at this time.

Dave, Thank you for the Chix noodle soup.  You're the best.  Thank you for the different fruit and veggies.   Melissa

Shawn and Karen are continuing to add the products you are requesting.  Give us a little time and keep the comments coming.

Dave I know you have already gotten several comments about this, but I figured I would write in as well in hopes that the situation will change. Closing Block & Barrel on weekends is a terrible idea. You say that we can go over to Crossroads for sandwiches, but  a) the sandwiches at CR are different and not as good and  b) that is a long way away compared to Cate when you just want to grab a quick lunch on Saturday. We're talking a difference between 15 minutes to go and get a sandwich and come back to your room with it compared to the hour it would take to walk to the Union, order food, eat it, and walk back. Not cool. I'm willing to bet that if we had a choice, most of us here on campus would pick to have B&B open on weekends rather than Taco Mayo or Cinnabun. This is my fifth year in Housing and there is no way I would still be here if I didn't think the food was great. I have always commended you for doing such an amazing job with the food services, but I feel like things have gone way downhill this year. I'm adjusting to most of the disappointing changes, but this weekends situation has got to change. As RAs we're supposed to encourage residents to stay on weekends, but personally I don't even want to be here since there are so few food options. Please think about changing the B&B situation...I have heard nothing but complaints about it which is a good indication that the idea is just not working. Thanks Dave.  JuuuuLLLliiiiEEEE

As we decided earlier we will give the B&B weekend option a try.  It will be interesting to see the reaction from the pizza camp.

Hi Dave, I was at Roscoe's the other day and I decieded that I needed a hot chocolate with soy milk. so when I ordered they asked if vanilla soy milk would be ok. Well I asked if they had regular but they said that they didn't have any. I thought that is wierd becasue last year you had both vanilla and regular soy milk. you see I really wouldn't care if they put vanilla soy milk in the hot chocolate but it is to vanilla since they put a shot of vanilla in the drink anyway and there is not that oh so delish chocolate that I love so very much. so could you try to get some regular soy milk at Roscoes.  Hot chocolate lover, The Random Cat ps Tim is the coolest person ever!!!

Sometimes we do run out of things.  I'm sure the regular soy milk will be back.  I'll remind the Roscoe's folks that Xcetera sells it and if they run out they can "borrow" some from there.

Ahoy-hoy Dave, Thanks for the veggie burgers today. They tasted great. You should bring them out again really soon. Did you change the recipes this year at the Vegetation Station? It isn't quite up to last year's par. I was wholly impressed with the offerings last year. This year is blander, with less quantity. You credited last year's success to a certain chef that was in charge of the Vegetation Station. Did the chef leave?  And why did you change the soup containers? The large bowls aren't even keeping the soup tepid. Thanks a lot, Dave.
Oh, and can we get Key Lime Pie at the Sooner Sweets Shoppe? It's my fav.
Jake

Jake.  We have had no real changes on the Vegetation station other than the presentation.  I'm not sure why you perceive things to taste differently.  I'll inquire about the soup, it may be that we do need to have it in a kettle to keep it hot.

I love that we have a coffee shop so close to the dorms, but I don't understand why it isn't open on weekend mornings. It seems like if it isn't monday through friday, then just about nothing is open.  What I really enjoy having is a latte and a scone for breakfast, like I always could at Starbucks.  At Roscoe's you offer muffins and doughnuts, but no scones.  Would it be possible to offer one or two varieties of scones?  A scone and a latte would make my day! Thanks, Paige

Certainly a legitimate request, I'll check into scone availability.

At lunch today I chose to go over to Cate Center and see what they had to offer.
I ordered the combo: fish, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes. And, of course, I wanted hush puppies instead of a roll.
Since the combo comes with a roll, I was charged an extra dollar for the hushpuppies (even though I declined a roll.)
I am baffled by this.  I am sure if I had quibbled about it, they probably would have seen reason and allowed the substitution.
But, unfortunately, I am a quiet man and simply walked away with a dollar less than I had expected. I do think this should be changed, though, for future customers, of which I may be one. This didn't really hit me until I was walking away, but, since I had already paid, and by check too, I figured at that point it would be too much of a hassle to try to get a dollar back.

It does seem like a reasonable substitution, one that our employees should be empowered to make.  Maybe I'm missing something so let me check why we wouldn't have done this.
